With its outstanding desert landscape and impressive rock formations, Wadi Rum offers first class climbing opportunities. We will lead you through the traditional Bedouin hunting routes, some over 2000 years old. This is where our ancestors used to climb in search for mountain goats, sometimes leaving their families behind for days.
Follow the footsteps of the Bedouins and join us for a unique experience, rock climbing Jordan. We will show you the Bedouin climbing style, where we use mostly natural protection to keep the Wadi Rum Protected Area as authentic as possible. Most trails aren’t marked, and fixed protection such as drilled placements, bolts and pitons are kept to an absolute minimum, so this will be a true adventure in the Wadi Rum wilderness. We love to let ourselves be carried away off the beaten tracks and set our course along the way, just like the nomads used to do.
Are you a real dare devil, ready to conquer these massive rock formations? Then choose one of the top 5 mountains to climb, or just tell us your wishes and we will make a good plan for you. The team of Wadi Rum Desert Dreams know the best places in Wadi Rum, and our experienced guides will safely guide you through them.
The climbing experiences are only suitable for experienced climbers. So, if you are a real adventurer who’s not afraid of heights, then we can make it a great adventure together! Not sure if you are up for this challenge? Then check out our hiking tours.

WHy you need an experienced local guide
to climb in wadi rum:
-
Fixed protection is limited: Wadi Rum is a protected area. To preserve the wilderness experience, fixed protection such as drilled placements, bolts and pitons are kept to an absolute minimum. We rather use natural protection, which is much less intrusive in the landscape. However, for safety reasons, some of the more popular climbs are equipped with abseil chains. Many descents rely only on slings and threads. So even for experienced climbers, this can be a challenge. Under our guidance we ensure a safe climb.
-
No marking: The routes in the mountains aren’t marked with paint or inscriptions. There are still original cairns (small piles of stones) that were placed years ago by our Bedouin ancestors to mark some trails. We as locals still use this method to guide us through the mountains, but for visitors it is very easy to lose the way.
-
Restrictions: Restrictions apply on the mountains and sights, and there is a strict code of conduct for safety and protection of the natural environment. We know exactly what's allowed, so when you're with us, you don't have to worry about these things.
-
There is no rescue team: The rocks are friable, and the climb can be dangerous. We often climb in remote areas, where we are difficult to reach, therefore it is advised to always take a local with you. We know the way, can call in the right help, and we always report the climb in advance, so that someone knows where we are. There is no official Rescue Team in the area, but in the event of an accident or emergency we can contact the Tourist Police, the ambulance service, and if necessary, the Royal Jordanian Helicopter Service. Experienced Bedouin climbers are also always willing to volunteer.

Climbing options & prices
Going climbing with us is not like any other activity. Which guidance is needed depends very much on your experience, the mountain, the route, and other circumstances such as the weather, the size of the group and the number of guides that will accompany you. This is not a standard package that we offer, but a tailor-made experience. That is why we don’t use standard prices for climbing.
