About the camel ride

wadi rum camel ride

See Wadi Rum from a different perspective and wander around the breathtaking scenery by camel, with our different options to ride a camel in the desert. Camels are called the ships of the desert, because of their ability to carry heavy weight from one side of the desert to the other side. Camels hold a special place in the hearts of Bedouins. For thousands of years, our ancestors who led a nomadic life, used camels to travel through the desert, carrying their belongings like food, water, and tents. Camels are known for their ability to last days without food or water, and still being able to walk up to 40 km a day.

Nowadays, some Bedouins still use camels as transportation. They also organise camel races, and love to drink camel milk, which is full of nutrients. You will see many camel herds pass by in Wadi Rum. They are all owned by Bedouins, but are free to move around by themselves. Their owner will regularly check up on them.

Camels are a big part of our culture. We love to share our love for them with our tourists. So if you are up for a fun and unique experience, a camel ride is the perfect choice for you! You will be accompanied by a Bedouin guide and there is also time to take pictures. Most camel rides start and end at Lawrence Spring, where camels come together to drink from the natural spring water that runs down from the mountains. We have different options available, from a short camel ride, to gull day camel treks. Just choose the best options for you.

Enjoy a camel ride during your Jeep Tour

During the jeep tour we will visit Lawrence Spring, a natural spring with water running from the mountain. All the camels in Wadi Rum always find their way back to this spring. It is their favorite place to relax and drink some fresh water, after days of wandering through the desert. Here you will also find the camels that do the camel rides, waiting for the next tourist to explore the desert with. Our camels are friendly and adventurous and during the camel ride you'll notice that each camel has its own personality. A fun way to get to know these desert dwellers and connect with them. When we make a stop at Lawrence Spring, during the jeep tour, you can go on a camel ride for 30 to 60 minutes. It is also possible to do a sunset camel ride after the jeep tour, and end the ride at a nice sunset viewpoint with tea on the fire
