Trekking in wadi rum
The word Bedouin comes from the Arabic word “Badawï”, which means desert dweller. When go you trekking with us, you’ll feel like a true Wadi Rum nomad, as you wander the desert like our ancestors did centuries ago. The Bedouins moved from place to place with their flock, searching for shade and springs along the way. As we follow their footsteps, this journey will take us past Bedouin villages, natural springs, and other highlights of Wadi Rum like canyons, famous movie scenes and naturally formed bridges, surrounded by impressive rock formations.
Wadi Rum is a world-class trekking destination with its red sand dunes, wildlife, canyons, hidden flora and fauna, and amazing panoramic views. By slowly trekking through the desert, you have all the time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and really get in touch with nature. You will be amazed by the kindness of the Bedouins you’ll encounter, and the curious camel herds we’ll pass by.
This is a real adventure with no marked trails. With our experienced local Bedouin guides we’ll lead you to all the amazing sights. We will start early to avoid walking too long in the burning sun. Along the way we stop regularly to relax, while enjoying Bedouin tea, water, and a delicious traditional lunch. At each highlight we make a stop, and you have the opportunity to discover the sight, and sometimes even climb. A jeep follows us so that there are always drinks nearby. It is also possible to drive along with the jeep if walking becomes difficult. After spending the day exploring this diverse landscape, we enjoy our evenings in a traditional cave outside to eat a nice dinner and relax by a crackling fire under the incredible sky full of stars. We tell stories, play games and we might even sing and dance.
We have mapped out beautiful routes, but this can always be adjusted along the way, if necessary. We mainly walk through the desert sand, which can be intensive and heavy, so this tour is not for everyone. If you are looking for a tour with less walking, check out our jeep tours (which also include some hiking and scrambling).
