Hiking in wadi rum

If you are searching for less crowded places to visit, love to discover the hidden gems of Wadi Rum, are a nature lover, and like to combine your vacation with a challenge, you should definitely go on a hiking adventure with us! Did you know? Wadi Rum is considered one of the best hiking destinations!

Recharge, reconnect and feel closer to nature, as you explore places that have not yet been discovered by most tourists. With these hikes we follow in the footsteps of our ancestors who created the ancient Bedouin trails years ago. Enjoy spending quality time with your Bedouin guide and ask him anything you want to know about the Bedouin life in the desert.

While enjoying spectacular views, your guide will tell you about the many plant species you will encounter along the way, which are used by the Bedouins in tea or as medicine. Away from the crowds, you have a higher chance of spotting animals that like to hide out of sight, like mountain goats, lizards or even wolves. Don't worry, the animals don't like to be disturbed and prefer to stay far away from people.

The Wadi Rum Protected Area covers 720 m2 of outstanding desert landscape and offers world class hiking opportunities. We selected the best Wadi Rum Hiking trails for you. Choose Jabal Al Hash if you want an easy hike with spectacular views on top, Burdah Rock Bridge if you like to scramble and enjoy a more challenging hike all the way up to one of the highest natural bridges, or Jabal Umm Ad Dami if you want to reach the highest point of Jordan and take a picture with the Jordanian flag while overlooking Saudi Arabia. We find it important to adapt to your pace and level, so that you can fully enjoy this experience. And we will provide enough drinking and rest breaks.

It is also possible to do trekking or to hike or climb other mountains that are not mentioned here, just let us know your wishes. The trails in Wadi Rum areen't marked, but our experienced guides know every mountain in Jordan and will lead you safely through it.

Jabal Al hash

What to expect?
If you like to look for hidden gems, this is the right tour for you! Because the Al Hash Mountain is in the outer area of Wadi Rum, we pass places that you won’t see during the regular jeep tours. The main focus of this tour is the hike up to Al Hash, but we would also like to show you more of Wadi Rum's rich history and culture.

On a breathtaking drive we leave the red sands as we enter the white desert towards the remote Wadi Sabet, a valley close to the Saudi Arabia border. Now the real hike can begin. First some scrambling, and then a long hike surrounded by impressive large mountains, sometimes even accompanied by wild camels. At the top you will be rewarded with spectacular views, the serenity of the Wadi Sabet valley you overlook is superb. The variety of colors in the landscape makes it a great place to take beautiful panoramic photos.

After the tour your guide cooks a traditional Bedouin lunch for you. You have the time to relax, or you can go for a hike in the valley.

After lunch you can choose between a canyon hike or a hidden gems jeep tour. During the jeep tour we’ll show you an ancient Bedouin cave and a Bedouin Dam that collects water in a well, for Bedouins to use during dry season. If there is time left before sunset, we will show you even more highlights of Wadi Rum like natural, canyons or inscriptions.

To complete this adventure, we end the day at Um Sabatah, the best place to enjoy the magical sunset with some fresh Bedouin tea.

Height: 1700 m

Time: The full day hike is from 10:00 till sunset. The Al Hash hike itself will take about 2,5 to 3 hours. The whole experience ends after sunset.

Difficulty: Medium. You don’t need to be in great shape for this tour. You will mainly walk on uneven surfaces, but the walk also includes scrambling up the mountain, which can be a bit challenging in some parts.

Footwear: We recommend mountaineering boots, but sports shoes are also fine.

Meeting point: We will depart from the parking in Wadi Rum Village, this is also where you will be dropped off after the tour.

Hiking burdah rock bridge

Burdah rock bridge

What to expect?
Does your heart beats faster from challenging obstacles and great heights? Are you a true adventurer, ready for a thrill? Then you don’t want to miss hiking the Burdah mountain, rewarding you at the top with one of the highest natural bridges in the world. The Burdah Rock Bridge trail has a rocky mountain surface with some technically difficult areas that require scrambling and even some climbing up steep surfaces. Because the hike can be challenging, you will be well supported by an experienced guide.

The higher you climb, the better the view gets. Can you believe the scenery is even more breathtaking in real life? The best part of this hike is standing on Burdah Rock Bridge, feeling like you’re on top of the world, overlooking the Martian landscape of Wadi Rum. The descent is easier, giving you a better eye for the many beautiful flowers and plants that grow miraculously in the drought. On the way back we take a break at a beautiful spot up the mountain, where we enjoy a well-deserved Bedouin tea.

Back down we enjoy a traditional lunch, cooked outside on the fire. You can take your time to relax a bit, or wander around in the valley.

Besides climbing the Burdah Mountain, we also show you some other highlights of the Wadi Rum desert. For example: A Bedouin Dam, Bedouin caves or a canyon like the beautiful Abu Khashaba Canyon (one of our favorite sights), this deep narrow valley is a real oasis of peace. We end the tour at Um Sabatah, the best place to watch the magical sunset with some Bedouin tea.

Height: 1300 m

Time: The full day hike is from 10:00 till sunset. The Burdah hike itself will take about 3 hours. The whole experience ends after sunset.

Difficulty: Medium - Difficult. You need to be in good shape for this tour, but climbing experience is not needed. Be prepared for hiking up a rocky mountain surface and technically difficult areas that require scrambling and climbing. This will be quite a challenge at some parts. This is not suitable for you if you are afraid of heights.

Footwear: Mountaineering or climbing boots.

Meeting point: We will depart from the parking in Wadi Rum Village, this is also where you will be dropped off after the tour.

With this tour you can cross “visiting the highest point in Jordan” off your bucket list. We will take you all the way to the southernmost part of Jordan, close to the border of Saudi Arabia where hardly any tourists come. The ride in the open back of the jeep is a spectacular experience as you feel the wind in your hair, while you flinch on the sand dunes. While looking out over the seemingly endless landscape, you will see how the colors, mountains, and landscape change as we drive from the red desert to the remote white desert, passing the most beautiful canyons and valleys.

As a reward for your climb to the top, the Jordanian flag awaits you there, a great moment to take pictures and enjoy the view. The climb itself is not technically difficult, but the path is very rocky, and some sections involve scrambling. After the hike we prepare a traditional lunch for you, while you can hike some more in the Wadi Sabet valley. Or you can just relax and enjoy the panoramic landscape surrounding you.

We will pass Um Muqur, where you will see a traditional Bedouin Cave, carved out in the mountain. And we will pass a rock which is popular for its shape, we’ll leave it up to you to decide if it looks more like a chicken or a cow. We end the tour at Um Sabatah, the best place to watch the magical sunset with some Bedouin tea.
